Comparing Coffee and Tea

PlanetRx is an online drugstore that sells thousands of health-related products. PlanetRx also offers a number of healthy grocery options, including coffee and tea.

Coffee and tea are two go-to morning beverages, but which one will wake you up more quickly? If you are in need of an immediate burst of energy, there is not much of a comparison. An eight-ounce cup of coffee contains nearly 100 milligrams of caffeine, while the same amount of tea has, at most, about 60 milligrams.

Morning drinkers looking to lose weight should stick with tea. While coffee might curb a person’s appetite, the EGCG in green tea has been shown to stimulate muscle cells while reducing fat cells, which can lead to a loss of an inch off the waistline every 12 weeks.

When it comes to overall health, however, coffee and tea are equally beneficial. The Archives of Internal Medicine discovered in 2009 that individuals who drank four cups of coffee every day had a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes than non-drinkers, and that men who drank two cups per day had a reduced chance of getting skin cancer. The antioxidants in green tea, on the other hand, are great for strengthening a damaged immune system. Drinking green tea regularly also reduces the chances of prostate cancer.
